Cacupangan Cave Adventure

A cave crawling and swimming experience maybe physically tiring and even dangerous for a cave travellers’ life. But if travelling through caves is part of your bucket list, Cacupangan Cave is worth visiting.

It is located in Mabini, Pangasinan, a town close to Alaminos in Western Luzon.

You can get to Alaminos by bus since no commercial flights are available. Bus lines that go there include Victory Liner, Five Star, Super Lines and Dagupan Bus Co. (You could check bus fares and schedules bound to Alaminos by calling these companies or through their websites).

Going to Cacupangan Cave from the town of Mabini is also accessible by car, but expect a 40-45 minute rough ride. So if you are going to take the bus, be sure to eat a heavy breakfast and rest all throughout the 6-hour journey. Upon getting to the entrance of the cave, a quiet surrounding will welcome you; trees and a couple of picnic huts await.

Before starting to take on the cave, the cave tour guides will brief you with instructions on what to bring and secure.

Do not leave any of your belongings behind. They get stolen. Be sure to keep your cameras, cellphones, wallets in a waterproof bag or jug since there will be a lot of water to walk and swim through in the cave.

Helmets with headlamps are available for rent.

Be sure to bring packed lunch or even just a piece of bread since at the fourth hour of going through the cave, you will be taken to the other side with no comfortable place to eat; but surprisingly, there is a nice family settled in the mountain who offers a few pieces of their vegetable harvest to those explorers of the cave.

The physically challenging stunts like crawling, walking and swimming through waters in the cave can be quite tiring so you must have some food to eat so as not to get starved half-way through. Be cautious when walking on rocks, a lot of them are slippery and sharp. And most of all, watch your head when crawling in the cave.

It is a rare and unusual experience to be inside a cave as you will see unique rock formations that are centuries old; seeing these astonishing things will surely make you tick an item off your bucket list.

It is best to join travel groups if it is your first time to come to Cacupangan Cave in Mabini. I recommend that you inquire with TravelPack if they have schedules and to ask about their latest package rates.
