European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines Launched the 1st European Motor Show


Last week, 11-13 March 2016, the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) launched the 1st European Motor Show at Bonifacio High Street, Global City, Taguig. It was an exciting event for car and motorcycle enthusiasts as the motor show showcased some of the best European brands of cars, motorcycles, buses, trucks, parts and accessories, fuels and lubricants, tools, workshops and equipment, paints and finishes and more. The three-day event had a lot of fun activities such as exhibits that presented state of the art and cutting edge European technologies, free test drive, car care tips, exhibits by European car clubs and others. There were also forums and presentations like the “Road Safety Forum” with guest speaker Engr. Alberto H. Suansing, Secretary General of the Philippine Global Road Safety Partnership ℅ Automobile Association of the Philippines. Other presentations were about “Cleaner Fuels” and “Cleaner Technologies”. The day ended with night festivities that featured European music, food and beverage.


Present during the event last Saturday, 12 March 2016, are Guenter Taus, President of the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines; Florian Gottein, ECCP Vice President for Membership and Business Services; H.E. Ambassador Franz Jessen, Head of Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines; Judge Cesar Cruz, Corporate Secretary of ECCP; John Paul Orbeta, CEO of Volkswagen Philippines; Andree Buehl, Commercial Counselor of the German Embassy in Manila; H.E. Josef Muellner, Austrian Ambassador to the Philippines; and Matthieu Penot, Environmental and Sustainable Development Officer of the EU Delegation.


The exhibitors during the motor show were Audi, Asian Replica, BMW, BMW Motorrad, Carlack, Continental, DB Schenker, Ducati, ExWorks, LiquiMoly, MAN, Maserati, Mercedes Benz, Peugeot, Philips Automotive Lighting, Pilipinas Shell, Ural, Volkswagen, Volvo and Würth.




There were some new and interesting features in this motor show. Volkswagen had a large air-conditioned tent for the “Road Safety For Kids” activity for children and parents. Here, the young participants (from age 4-8 years old) were trained in road safety and given a driver’s license at the end of the activity. This motivated the kids to pay attention and cooperate during the lecture and actual driving exam.


Shell promoted their Shell V-Power Nitro+ in a creative way through a virtual reality gear. Participants can wear a 360-degree goggles with virtual reality screen that showed a 3-D presentation of what goes on inside a car’s engine with Shell V-Power Nitro+. It was a fun and interesting science activity.




The 1st European Motor Show was made possible by European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines with co-presentors Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation, Gold sponsor MAN and Silver sponsor JEC Philippines. The event was organised by Fairs&More, in cooperation with EU-Philippines Business Network, Belgian-Filipino Business Club, British Chamber of Commerce Philippines, CCI France Philippines, German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, The Italian Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines,  The Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (La Cámara) and Nordic Business Council Philippines.


Most people have the connotation that European cars are expensive and only about luxury. The European Motor Show aims to present European brands in a different light.

What sets European cars apart from the other carmakers?

  • Brand Equity


Just to name a few, brands like Volvo from Sweden, first introduced the SIPS or the Side-Impact Protection System and is a pioneer in eco-friendly engines. BMW is an award-winning luxury brand from Germany. Their car models have some of the finest engines and excellent ergonomic features for driving comfort and safety. Motorcycles by Ducati from Italy are frequent champions in MotoGP racing. Mercedes-Benz is a German brand known for elegance and class. They also have the latest technology in safety and accident prevention like the Distronic Plus with Pre-Safe Brake where a system helps reduce the intensity of a collision in case of a car crash. Peugeot from France is also an award-winning brand. The Peugeot 308 won the European Car of the Year in 2014. And of course, there’s Volkswagen with the sensible saloon Passat winning the Car of the Year in 2015. There are many great things that we can discover with European cars!
